Fundraising Decisions
Thanks to those who were able to make it out to the meeting last night!! We had some really good ideas generated, and we'll need everyone to step in and help out where they can.
Our first "event" is a bake sale. The students will organize the when, where and how. Parents just need to send in some goodies for the sale. Keep asking your student for details, and check back on this post as it will be updated as quickly as possible.
If you have additional ideas for fund raisers, please let me know so that I can share them with the group.
We discussed:
Rotary Club Duck Sale (more info later)
Selling pizza by the slice after school
Selling flowers for Valentine's Day (if other school groups aren't already doing this)
Raffle tickets to give away prizes
Car Wash (in the spring)
Yard Sale (in March/April)
Corporate Sponsors
Krispy Cream Donuts
Baby-sitting Services (for Valentine's Day)
Dinner/Lunch plate sales (BBQ or Fish w/ fixings)
Selling drinks/snacks at track meets

Family Fundraising
We hope that everyone has begun their own personal fundraising for the trip, and that all is going well.
Our next individual installment of $250 is due on /Wednesday February 7th.
We are planning a parent/student meeting on Thursday January 25th from 6:30 - 7:30pm.
This will be held in the Glenwood Elementary Media Center. For those of you not from the area, Glenwood is located off of Raleigh Road behind the Credit Union and Harris Teeter at Glenn Lennox shopping center. (email (Kvillines@hotmail.com or call me (932-8881) if you need directions.)
Please respond to your email to confirm your participation. (I think I'm missing a few parents email addresses)
We will discuss fundraising ideas for the money we must raise as a group (at least $5000).
Please bring an open mind and any ideas you may have.

Get Your Passport
Happy New Year YLI Families -
I have some updated information about Passports. Ms. Clark had requested that all applications be done by December 31st. In case you have not yet done this, please do your best to get it done by the end of this week. Remember, it takes roughly 6 weeks to get them back and then they all must be sent as a group to Ghana for approval.
Here is some information about the passports that I will also post on the website.
You can download the form from this site: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html
You must have 6 photos for the passport. They will take 2 photos at the post office (Estes Drive Office) for a cost of $15. Each additional set of 2 photos are $15. Kinko's (Franklin Street) charges $12.95 for 2 photos, and $5 for each additional set of 2. The best deal I found is at CVS (Carrboro) where they charge $7.99 for 6 photos.
You will need to be with your child if they are under 18 and applying. You will also need a valid ID for yourself to sign the papers.
In addition to a picture ID, you will also need a certified copy of the child's birth certificate.
If you have any questions, you may call the Post Office (Estes Drive) at 929-9892. They stop accepting applications at 4:00pm.
Also, the cost is $97. $67 for the passport and $30 to the Post Office.
